nine is a free revision site for GCSE Science students. Most of the people using it are 14 to 16 years old, so we collect as little as we possibly can and we do not profile anyone, sell anything, or run behavioural advertising. This page explains, in plain English, exactly what we hold.
What we collect
When you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google, and we store them so we can recognise your account next time. We never see or store your Google password.
While you use the site we store the choices and results you enter: whether you are sitting Triple or Combined Science, your light or dark theme preference, and, for each past paper you log, the subject, paper, year, your mark and the grade that mark works out as. That is the whole list.
We do not ask for your school, your age, your address, or your phone number, and we do not ask you to type your grades in from anywhere else.
Why we collect it
Only to run the thing you signed up for: to keep you signed in, to show your progress on whatever device you pick up, and to turn the marks you log into real grades. We do not use your data to build an advertising profile of you, and we never sell or share it with advertisers or data brokers.
Who runs nine
nine is run from the United Kingdom by its founder. For anything about your data, email hello@ninegcse.com.
Who else can see it
Nobody else using the site can see your marks. Behind the scenes we use a small number of service providers to make the site work — hosting and our database (Vercel and Neon), and Google for sign-in. They process data on our instructions only. We also use privacy-friendly, aggregate analytics to count page views; it does not identify you or follow you around the web.
Past papers and video walkthroughs are hosted by other people — AQA, Cognito and YouTube. When you click through to one you leave nine and their own privacy policies apply.
How long we keep it
For as long as you have an account. If you want your account and everything in it deleted, email hello@ninegcse.com from the address you signed up with and we will delete it.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You need to be at least 13 to have an account; if you are under 13, please ask a parent or guardian to email us instead of signing up. Parents and guardians can contact us at the same address about a child's account. If you are not happy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Cookies
We use a cookie to keep you signed in, and your browser remembers your theme choice. That is all we need — there are no advertising or tracking cookies on this site.
